Girls’ Tennis Shows Prowess on the Courts

The Girls’ Tennis team has shown their skills in the sport over the years and last year was no different. The ladies dominated the tennis courts and achieved a first place ranking in Division II Section I. This year, will they replicate their past successes?

During the 2017-2018 season, the girls crushed the competition, only losing one match out of their total of fourteen. The girls proved that they had prowess, skill, and determination. Now, the ladies are prepared to show the high school world that they are a power that should not be messed with.

This year, the team is seeing experienced players come back for another season as well as fresh new faces. Some of the rookies, while new to the team, are already ready to prove their worth. The girls have been practicing and training themselves since January and are putting plenty of effort into improving their skills for this season.

On February 25th, 2019 the regular season officially started and the Chiefs traveled to Desert Edge High School for their first match of the season. The girls were confident, full of adrenaline, and excited to finally start the season. Once they arrived at their destination, they focused on the task at hand: defeating the Scorpions. The girls achieved their goal. In the end, the Chiefs defeated the Scorpions in a landslide victory; the final score was 9-0. The next day, the ladies held their first match at home, hosting Cactus High School. Like their match against the Desert Edge Scorpions, the girls attained another landslide victory, defeating the Cactus Cobras 9-0 in the final moments of the match. However, this second victory didn’t quench the girls’ thirst for more success.

On February 28th, the girls faced off with Bradshaw Mountain High School at home and were hungry for another victory. They, again, attained another landslide victory defeating the Bradshaw Mountain Bears with a final score of 9-0. The girls continued their winning streak when the team traveled to Higley High School on March 5th, 2019. The Chiefs defeated the Higley Knights with a final score of 9-0, once again showing their dominance and prowess on the tennis courts. Two days later, the girls hosted the Arcadia Titans at home and continued their winning streak; the Chiefs attained an 8-1 victory over the Titans. On  March 13th, 2019 the Chiefs held another home game and hosted Cortez High School. Once again, the girls achieved another landslide victory, defeating the Cortez Colts 9-0. After this victory, the Chiefs took a break and the girls enjoyed their spring break. On March 27th, 2019, the girls traveled to Washington High School for their first tennis match after their week long vacation. The Chiefs faced off with the Washington Rams and continued to prove that they were the epitome of success. The girls attained a 7-2 win over their opponents. A day later, the girls had another away game. This time they traveled to Glendale High School and left the campus with another landslide win; the Chiefs defeated the Glendale Cardinals 9-0.

The team started the season with a bang! So far, the girls have a record of 8-0 and are ranked first in the Division II Section I charts and are also fourth in Division II. The girls started off strong and want to continue their dominance of the courts. The ladies will face off with the North Canyon Rattlers on April 2nd, 2019 and are ready to continue their perfect record. Will the team continue their success or be dealt their first loss?
