Baseball Ends Season With Victory Over Lake Havasu

The Baseball team is in the second half of the season and are about to face some very difficult opponents.

After participating in the Greenway Festival that was hosted by Greenway at Cactus High School, the boys traveled to Shadow Mountain High School on April 2nd, 2019. When they arrived in enemy territory, the Chiefs were somewhat nervous since the Shadow Mountain Matadors have an overall record of 10-3 and are ranked as third in the 4A Skyline standings. However, this did not deter the Chiefs. As a result of their perseverance and dedication, the Chiefs defeated the Matadors in a 6-5 victory. Two days later, the boys hosted the Shadow Mountain Matadors in a second match-up on home turf. While the opposition tried to redeem their first loss against the Chiefs, they were unsuccessful; the boys achieved a 4-3 victory over the Matadors. On April 5th, 2019, the Chiefs hosted the Moon Valley Rockets at home. After defeating the same opponent twice, the boys were ready to send the Rockets back home. In the end, the Chiefs achieved a 6-4 victory over Moon Valley High School, putting another win under their belt. On April 9th, 2019, the boys hosted St. Mary’s at home and succeeded in defeating the Knights, attaining a 2-1 victory over St. Mary’s.

A day after, the boys traveled to Sunnyslope High School looking for another win. Unfortunately, the opposition had other plans. In the end, the Sunnyslope Vikings defeated the Chiefs in a close 5-7 victory. The Chiefs were handed another loss on April 11th, 2019 when they faced off with St. Mary’s once again, the final score of the game being 5-8; the Knights had their vengeance.

Four days after their defeat by the St. Mary Knights, the Chiefs traveled to Moon Valley High School to face off with the Rockets one more time. The Chiefs were determined to repeat the outcome of their first game against the Rockets where they achieved victory, but the opposition had other plans. Unfortunately, the Rockets sent the Chiefs home with a defeat, achieving a 6-8 victory over the Chiefs.

A day later, the boys traveled to Greenway High School for the penultimate round of the season. The Chiefs, while giving it their all and fighting hard, lost to the Greenway Demons in a 0-8 defeat. However, on April 18th, 2019, the Chiefs faced the Demons one more time. This time, the Chiefs had their revenge; the boys achieved a 4-3 victory over Greenway High School, making up for their first loss. On April 24th, 2019, the boys traveled to Lake Havasu High School for their last game of the season. The Chiefs were excited to end the season on a good note. In the end, the Chiefs defeated the Lake Havasu Knights in a 5-1 victory.

The Thunderbird High School Baseball team ended the 2019 season with an overall record of 9-9, achieved a rank of third in the 4A Skyline standings, and achieved a standing of twentieth in the 4A rankings. While the team isn’t moving on to state, they are already thinking of the next season in 2020. They hope to come out next year better and stronger
