South Korea’s NCT Gains Popularity

Over the past couple of months, Korean pop music has been taking the world by storm. Millions of individuals have been entranced by this music phenomenon and has resulted in many delving into several Korean artists. One of these acts that are on the rise is NCT.

Neo Culture Technology, otherwise known as NCT, is a South Korean and Chinese music group formed by SM Entertainment in 2016. Currently, the group has twenty one members with more on the way in the future. The group mainly consists of Korean artists with some coming from other countries such as Japan, China, Thailand, and the United States. Their names are Taeyong, Ten, Doyoung, Taeil, Jaehyun, Mark, Yuta, Winwin, Haechan, Johnny, Jeno, Chenle, Jaemin, Jisung, Jungwoo, Lucas, Xiaojun, Hendery, Kun, Yangyang, and Renjun. The members are put into four subunits that make up NCT: NCT U, NCT 127, NCT Dream, and WayV.

This South Korean boy group officially debuted on April 9, 2016 with subunit NCT U’s release of two singles named “The 7th Sense” and “Without You” with Taeyong, Ten, Jaehyun, Mark, Doyoung, and Taeil debuting first. Ever since then, the boys have seen their popularity rise steadily with every song release and group debut.

In July of 2016, another subunit made its debut: NCT 127. The group debuted with the song “Fire Truck” and added Yuta, Winwin, and Haechan as new members. In August of the same year, SM Entertainment added yet another subunit to NCT. The entertainment company debuted NCT Dream on August 24th, 2016 with the song “Chewing Gum” and added five new members to the overall unit, their names being Jisung, Jaemin, Jeno, Chenle, and Renjun. From 2016 to 2018, the entertainment company announced another subunit and added seven people to NCT, the new members being Jungwoo, Xiaojun, Lucas, Kun, Hendery, Johnny and Yangyang. On January 17th, 2019, the final subunit debuted: WayV. The Chinese-based group consists of seven members, those being Winwin, Kun, Hendery, Lucas, Xiaojun, Ten, and Yangyang. The unit debuted with the song “Regular,” a Chinese version of NCT 127’s original song going by the same name.

Ever since the release of “The 7th Sense” by NCT U, the group has seen a meteoric rise in popularity, especially in the United States. NCT 127 saw itself attend the 2018 Billboard Music Awards and has made several American television debuts. This rise in popularity, fans say, is due to the group’s “entrancing music and dance performances.” The members themselves have also contributed to the group’s success, with fans stating that the members are visually appealing, their music is entertaining, their dance performances are mesmerizing, their individual personalities make for a well-rounded team, and that they are truly hardworking.

As a result, many people have started to listen to NCT and support their activities both in Korea and abroad. As a result of this success, NCT 127 announced a solo tour in North America. The group has already visited New Jersey, Georgia, Florida, Texas, and Arizona with the unit to also visit Illinois, California, and Canada as well. With their rise in popularity, NCT is expected to dominate the music industry and gain more traction and fame.
