Girls Basketball Ends the Season with 10-8 Record

Last we left off, the Girls Basketball team defeated the Mohave Thunderbirds in a blowout 64-22 victory. As a result, the team ended 2019 with an overall record of 4-1. During winter break, the ladies participated in the Lady Titan Winter Hoops Classic which was hosted by Arcadia High School. On December 26th, the Chiefs faced off with the Ironwood Eagles. In the end, the girls defeated the opposition in a close 53-47 victory. Unfortunately, the girls lost the other three games, losing to the Dobson Mustangs 28-51, the Xavier Preparatory Gators 39-53, and the Desert Edge Scorpions 31-43. After this invitational tournament, the girls prepared themselves for 2020 and what it had to bring.

On January 9th, 2020, the Chiefs traveled to Tempe High School to face off with the Tempe Buffaloes. The team wanted to start the new year off with a victory and that is what the girls did. The Chiefs defeated the Buffaloes in a 39-24 victory. Moreover, on January 15th, the team traveled to Bradshaw Mountain High School and ultimately defeated the Bears in a 46-38 win. Two days later, the girls held their first home game of 2020 and they faced off with the Shadow Mountain Matadors. The girls wanted to give the home crowd a good show and were determined to win the game. Unfortunately, the Matadors had other plans. Ultimately, the Matadors defeated the Chiefs in a 30-52 victory. However, the girls held their heads up high and made up for this loss when they defeated the St. Mary’s Knights two days later in a 54-44 victory.

A day later, the Chiefs held another home game, this time facing off with the Flagstaff Eagles. Unfortunately, the Chiefs were defeated by the Eagles in a 39-58 loss. Two days later, the girls also lost their game against the Greenway Demons, the final score being 43-50. Furthermore, the Chiefs lost to the Mesquite Wildcats in a stunning 46-63 upset. Hoping to end their three-game losing streak, the Chiefs faced the Tempe Buffaloes for a second time. Ultimately, the girls defeated the Buffaloes in a 49-37 victory. Two days later, the Chiefs traveled to Moon Valley High School, hoping to add another victory under their belt. Unfortunately, the Rockets defeated Thunderbird in a 38-54 upset. Additionally, the Chiefs were defeated by the Shadow Mountain Matadors once more in a 20-68 blowout. However, on February 6th, the girls made up for these two losses when they defeated the St. Mary’s Knights on their turf, the final score being 46-43. A day later, the Chiefs defeated the Moon Valley Rockets, the final score being 55-50. On February 11th, the girls held their last game at home against the Greenway Demons. While the team put up a good fight, the Demons defeated the Chiefs in a 38-56 victory.

As a result, the Girls Basketball team ended the season with an overall record of 10-8, is ranked fourth in the 4A Skyline Division, and ranked 13th in the 4A Division. The girls are now preparing themselves for the 2020-2021 season and are determined to do better in the future.
